Stagecoach Fayetteville

In the early 1800's, Fayetteville was a stagecoach stop on the Bastrop to San Felipe Trail. The town was settled in the late 1820's by members of Stephen F. Austin's Colony. German immigrants (1840's) were followed by Czechs (1850's) and to this day those early settlers' culture remains part of the town's history and heritage.

Today, the Town Square features business and shops located within "oldtime" false-front buildings. The 1880's Precinct Courthouse (with old jail on second floor) along with the bandstand and benches on the grounds brings to mind earlier days and times. Of special interest is the Fayetteville Area Mueseum, home to displays colorfully depicting the area's unique history and culture from early days to the present.

Visitors enjoy antiques, collectibles and gift shops on and near the square. (Shops open midweek and/or weekends.) Cafes are open convenient hours for just a cup of coffee, a cold drink, or for complete meals. The City Fire Department, EMS, K-12 shcools, churches and local businesses provide needed goods and services to this rural community.

Take time to drive or bike our winding country roads over rolling hills, past grazing cattle, hay fields and pastures, ponds reflecting blue skies, and many interesting old barns and other farm buildings. In the spring there is no better place to view acres of bluebonnets. Late autumn brings the beautiful colors of fall foliage to the countryside.

A 2400-acre fishing lake, a park with hike, bike and nature trails, an 18-hole golf course, area auto museums, live music concerts, theatre, community and church fesitvals, historic and scenic state park, herb and flower gardens, driving and bike routes, cultural center and amphitheater are all just a few miles or minutes away.

Our popular Fun Events include Spring & Fall Antique Shows, May Art Walk, Spring Bike Rides, Crusin' the Square, July City-wide Garage Sale, Fall Harp Concerts, October "Lickskillet" Days, and December Country Christmas.

Whether you come for a day, a weekend, or longer, numerous comfortable lodging accomodations including a restored 1900's hotel, a lodge, several B&B's and guest cottages are available... from in town to countryside... from rustic to elegant... your choice is assured.
