The Art Guild of Rural Texas was established in August 2003 to augment
art programs in the local rural schools and to provide programs for adults
in the community.
The Art Guild board and its members are committed to bringing a high
quality of visual and performing arts programs to their rural areas by
supporting programs such as "Art after School" and "Fine
Art Assembly Program" for students and the general public. The Annual
Art Walk is another program setup for the general public allowing participating
artists to compete for various awards.
In addition to the annual Art Walk, the Guild hosts art classes, the
Rolling Hills Artists' Studio Tour, and a number of "house concerts" for
the benefit of the regional community.
Through the most generous pledge of $100,000 from the Sanford & Mannie
Schmid Charitable Trust, the Art Guild purchased a historic building
on the town square in June 2005. The Art Guild offices are housed there,
as well as classroom and gallery facilities. A capital campaign to further
renovate this building is underway.
